A single owner collection of 41 pieces of modern Moorcroft pottery from a Shrewsbury collector sold for £2,300

Top price in the collection went to a pair of Florian Ware pear-shaped vases, decorated with an Iris design, by William Moorcroft for James Macintyre and Co, which made £460. From another vendor, a 1920s Moorcroft tobacco jar and cover in ‘Pomegranate patterns’, made £290.

“The collection was predominantly contemporary Moorcroft with some interesting trial and collectors’ pieces in a large variety of patterns,” said Caroline Dennard – Ceramics specialist. “The trial pieces were quite rare because they were never put into production.”

A 1930s tea and breakfast service and a dinner service both by Crown Ducal in ‘Orange Tree’ pattern sold for £520 each while a 1920s Royal Doulton vase, identified as probably by Charles Noke, made £240.

Top price in the auction went to a 1920s Chinese inspired four panel hinged room divider that sold for £1,050.

We were delighted with the 95 per cent sale rate for the collectable ceramics in the auction, which produced some excellent prices thanks to competitive bidding in the saleroom and online.
