New records were set as a single owner collection of Caughley porcelain sold for £16,250 in a ‘Made in Shropshire’ section at Halls Fine Art Auction on 8th October. The collection, owned by a Shropshire collector who is moving house, went under the hammer in Halls successful fine furniture, European ceramics and works of art auction at our Battlefield.

Stars of the collection were a rare pounce pot in a distinctive ‘Bobbin’ form that sold for £3,100 and a spittoon or saffer pot that made £1,250, both setting new records for their Caughley patterns. Top price of the day, however, went to a Royal Worcester reticulated teapot and cover by George Owen, from around 1880, that sold for £5,600.

Coalbrookdale entries were also in demand with a late Victorian cast iron ‘Fern and Blackberry’ pattern three seater bench finding a new home for £1,300, while an unusual Coalport vase and cover, painted by Frederick H. Chivers, sold for £600.

Caroline Dennard, European ceramics specialist, said due to the popularity of the ‘Made in Shropshire’ section with vendors and buyers alike, it would definitely be repeated in the company’s 2015 auction programme.
