Meet Jack Austerberry. He’s our watch specialist. He’s young, has orange, floppy, hair and has been known as the image for modern antiques!
As well as having a great character, style (with funky socks) and charming personality, he knows a lot about watches.
Having joined us in November 2018. At just 19 he is the youngest specialist we have but don’t let his age lead you to think he is lacking in the necessary knowledge. Jack has been studying watches independently for years and is a true enthusiast of horology.
Halls' Watch Department is headed up by Jack, where he curates monthly auctions at our Battlefield saleroom in Shrewsbury. Jack has developed an extensive network of collectors worldwide, and aims to ensure that all watches are given maximum pre-sale exposure to potential bidders.
Renowned manufacturers, including Rolex, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Cartier and Breitling often grace the pages of our catalogues and always prove popular with buyers. If you prefer the more traditional, silver and gold pocket watches are regularly consigned for both our specialist and monthly auctions.
Our quarterly watch auction attracts both trade and private buyers and atmosphere on the day is always buoyant. Hosting two weekday viewing events together with weekend opening hours prior to sale day we cater for all potential buyers. For our buyers' peace of mind all lots with an upper estimate value of £1,000 and above are searched against The Art Loss Register database. In addition to this, all auctions are active online, providing not only prospective purchasers from around the world the chance to bid, but also providing vendors with the assurance that their items are given the maximum exposure to the international market thus enabling Halls to achieve the most competitive prices.
The 19th of June 2019 marked my first ever substantial collection of watches consigned to the inaugural Silver, Jewellery and Watch sale, this Tudor Submariner Ref. 7928, with the gorgeously patinated gilt dial was without a doubt my highlight lot from that sale. I was keen to please the Australian vendor, and with the winning bid at £4,200- I did just that!
If you have any watches you wish to sell or just wish to know more about a watch Jack is the specialist to ask!
