Schools across Staffordshire and Shropshire were invited to submit art work on the theme of ‘Celebration’ to commemorate the year that saw the 35th Anniversary of the creation of the Weston Park Foundation.

Halls Young Artist Competition Winners - 2023

 

The Weston Park Foundation is the charity that continues the conservation and maintenance of Weston Park since its gifting to the nation in 1986 by the 7th and current Earl of Bradford.

Weston Park’s Rose Paterson Art Gallery has been the venue for the annual Halls Young Artist Open Competition throughout December 2022 and January 2023. James Pearn from Halls Fine Art Auctioneers in Shrewsbury has faced the difficult challenge of judging the children’s artwork, which included both two and three dimensional works, and selected winners from the Primary and Secondary School Categories.

Primary School Winners saw Arianna Russo from St Dominic’s Priory in Stone, take home the first prize, Drawings by Year 4 from St Mary’s & St Chad’s First School Brewood received the second prize and Rupert Banks, St Dominic’s Priory in Stone, was awarded third prize.

The Secondary School Category gave Demi Birkin from Moorside High School, Stoke-on-Trent, the first prize, Nathanial Goodyear from Wrekin College Telford second prize and Kayleigh Benbow from St Dominic’s Priory Stone was awarded third prize.

Halls, the fine art auctioneers & valuers have generously given cash prizes of £250 to both of the 1st prize winning schools. Arts Society Wrekin presented winners with book tokens and the Weston Park Foundation gave winners annual family estate membership to encourage further connections with the important collections in the house at Weston Park.

Gareth Williams, Curator and Head of Learning to the Weston Park Foundation comments: ‘We are once again bowled over by the imagination and the quality of entries in this year’s Halls Young Artist Open Competition and our visitors have greatly enjoyed seeing this exhibition.’

He continues, ‘Thanks to Halls and Arts Society Wrekin’s generosity, we’ve had a feast of art work to show and I really hope that the children have enjoyed having the chance to create works and to show them in Weston Park’s Rose Paterson Art Gallery.’

With the Halls Young Artist Open Competition entering its last week of display, Weston Park have announced its competition for December 2023 based on the theme of this year’s Coronation of King Charles III.
