The must anticipated Silver, Jewellery and Watches sale is finally here, the watches in this sale are primarily of the highest quality. Featuring rare pieces, and pieces that are in exceptional condition despite their age, this has to be one of the most exciting sales on the calendar for a watch collector, (and indeed those seeking to buy jewellery and silver!)

The final lot within the watch section (lot 250), the 1961 Tudor Submariner Ref. 7928, presents an exciting opportunity to acquire a watch with close affiliations to the ever-iconic Rolex Submariner, the Tudor is, by no means, an homage to the Rolex or a “knock-off”; it is a piece that was cased by Rolex and assembled by Rolex’s sister brand. Hans Wilsdorf founded Tudor in 1926, 21 years after the birth of Rolex, he decided to create watches of exceptional quality, using movements that remained accurate and reliable, but using marginally cheaper production methods and materials. The Tudor Submariner 7928 was designed as a tool watch, and the example we have has been used as one in its lifetime. But as many collectors are beginning to embrace the wabi-sabi outlook on watches, I can say without doubt that this is a watch with some genuine patina that can only be formed over nearly 60 years of use!

Lot 250, Silver, Jewellery and Watches Auction, 19th June
