A quality stamp collection contained within 29 albums, which was collected by a late South Shropshire philatelist, is expected to sell for more than £1,600 when it comes up for auction next week.

The collection, which includes a rare 1920 Postal Union Congress £1 black stamp in mint condition and an Edward VII £1 green stamp in used condition, has been consigned to Halls’ interiors auction in Shrewsbury on Wednesday next week by a deceased estate.

Included in the albums are stamp collections relating to the silver jubilee of George V and the coronations of George VI and Elizabeth II.

“He collected stamps from the Britain, the Commonwealth, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man and it’s one of the best collections that we have been asked to sell for a number of years,” said Derek Ainsworth, Halls’ stamps specialist. “They are high quality stamps and this collector obviously had very good taste.
