Gerry has over 30 years of expertise as a senior auctioneer and valuer and been personally responsible for written, probate, market and insurance valuations for over 20 years. Before joining Halls Gerry worked for Bonhams and Phillips in a variety of roles, including saleroom director, regional operations manager and for the last 18 years as a senior valuer for the valuations department covering the West Midlands.

I have identified some interesting and commercial items in the last few years, most recently a small World War I watercolour by Paul Nash that sold for £65,000 in the November 2019 Modern British Sale.

Other highlights have included spotting a collection of Demetre Stilletsky paintings and 'The Wealth of Nations' first edition by Adam Smith, as part of the Cory-Wright estate, which totalled £600,000+. In the last 6 years identifying two Qianlong, mark and period, Chinese vases that sold for a combined total of just under £1 million and a collection of Ivon Hitchens oil paintings that sold in excess of £850,000, as part of the Creak estate, which totalled £1 million were career highs.

These results are incredibly rewarding professionally. Finding unusual and/or exceptional works and then achieving really good prices for our clients is one of the most exciting aspects of the business.
