Special Event for Tunnicliffe Collectors

13/09/2019 10:00 - 12:00

Collectors and enthusiasts of the work of acclaimed artist, Charles Tunnicliffe OBE RA, are being given the opportunity to attend a talk and special view of his works prior to their auction here at Halls.

Ken Broughton, Secretary of the Charles Tunnicliffe Society, will be joining the Halls team at the event on Friday 13thSeptember to give a presentation about Tunnicliffe, who spent most of his working life on Anglesey. Known throughout the world for his lively paintings, etchings and engravings of British birds and wildlife, Tunnicliffe’s work is also famously found in Ladybird Books, the Brooke Bond tea cards of the 1950s and the front covers of RSPB wildlife magazines.

Mr Broughton commented; “Tunnicliffe intended his works to be enjoyed in people’s homes rather than displayed in galleries and are still popular 40 years after his death. They are particularly appreciated in Anglesey, North Wales and Cheshire where he spent much of his life and I am looking forward to meeting fellow enthusiasts at Halls.”

James Forster, Auctioneer and Picture Specialist at Halls added: “We are delighted that Mr Broughton is joining us to share his knowledge and enjoyment of Tunnicliffe’s work. The 20 minute presentation will start at 11am and the paintings will be available to view between 10am and noon. As a gesture of our appreciation for Mr Broughton giving us his time we will be making a contribution to the Severn Hospice.”

The Halls auction, which will take place on 18th September, includes 25 paintings by Tunnicliffe as well as a handwritten letter describing time spent by a lake watching ducks.
