George V 1897 Pattern Infantry sword owned by Colonel H.W Mirehouse

A George V 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer's sword worn by then 2/Lt (later Colonel) H.W Mirehouse, M.B.E, North Staffordshire Regiment
with a personalised inscription to the hilt 'H.W. Mirehouse, 11 N. Staffs Regt', serial number 1162 to spine, housed in original leather field service scabbard and brown outer covering, blade length 81.5cm, overall length 97cm

Notes: Henry William Mirehouse was born in 1892 in Barnet, Hertfordshire, England and died in 1952, in Cornwall. During the First World War, Mirehouse served with the North Staffordshire Regiment as a 2nd/Lieut and was awarded to the 1914-15 Mons Star. He then transferred to the South Lancashire Regiment for the remainder of WW1 and was wounded in France. The London Gazette, dated 7th. June 1918, shows that Second Lieutenant Mirehouse received his M.B.E. "for an act of gallantry not in the presence of the enemy."

During the inter-war period, he qualified as a French Interpreter with the regiment and was Staff Captain of the Field Troops (Regulars) with Eastern Command during the 1930s. By November 1939, he was Deputy Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster General at the Force Headquarters in Palestine and during the Second World War, he served with the British Military Mission to the Egyptian Army. He ended the war with the rank of Colonel.
