A Japanese shin-gunto

Japanese shin-gunto, Edo era and later, 28.25in (72cm) blade with 7in (18cm) nakago, signed, the bronze tsuba of lobed form and etched with trailing foliage to both sides, typical knurled-edged seppa, the 10in (25cm) unbound fishskin tsuka (grip) with scale-cast bronze fuchi and bronze floret mekugi, lacking kabuto-gane (pommel).

Lacking scabbard. Lacking kabuto-gane (pommel). Blade showing original patina and surface corrosion to one side, the other polished. Sharp edge bitten towards the tip. Surface rust to nakago. Grip fish skin beginning to lift and separate at the joint with small losses to the other side. Fuchi is loose.
