George Mackley MBE (1900-1983) was a British 20th Century wood engraver. Born in Huntingdon, he attended the Goldsmiths College in London before finding his niche under the tutelage of engraver Noel Roche in 1935. Mackley specialised in nautical, architectural and botanic scenes and is celebrated for his precise and energetic compositions. His book Wood Engraving, published in 1948, is still one of the leading manuals on wood engraving today.
