A Hawkes & Son military silver bugle presented to the Officers of the 1st King's Shropshire Light Infantry by Lieutenant F.W. Carter, M.C in 1927
hallmarked London, 1927 with 'H & Sn' maker's mark
embossed with the regimental badge below a crown and a full presentation inscription, 28.5cm long (dings and dents), weighs 22.2ozs

Notes: 2nd Lieut. F.W.A Carter joined the battalion in July 1916 and was wounded in October of the same year. He was awarded the Military Cross for operations in November 1917 in Cambrai. During the interwar period, Carter spent his time garrisoned in India training troops before sadly dying of pneumonia and being buried at Rawalpindi in late 1929/1930.

Provenance: Purchased by the present vendor from the KSLI on 21st August 1972. Sold together with a letter from the 3rd Btn Officers Mess Secretary confirming the sale together with research paperwork including a portrait of Carter in uniform and a photograph of his medals.
