A 19th century oak, 8-day longcase clock, 'Joseph Smith, Chester'

A 19th century oak, 8-day longcase clock, the plain hood with a shaped cornice and enclosing an earlier 12" brass dial, signed 'Joseph Smith, Chester', with pierced and moulded cherubim spandrels, Arabic 5 minute numerals and a subsidiary dial for seconds and date aperture, the long trunk door inlaid with a heart, above a panelled base with coigns, with pendulum and weights, some damage and losses, 184cm high (5)

Condition Report

Lacking elements, including 2cm section of cornice on right return, lock and winder and hood handle. Decorator's paint on back edges. Base lacking much of beaded panel and both left and right base mouldings In need of cleaning and polishing. Chips, dent and scratches consistent with age and use.


Not operational in vendor's home.
