Oliver Michael Chase (1915-2001) was a British painter from London. Following service during the Second World War, he studied at the Chelsea School of Art before working for the Zwemmer Gallery 1954-1965 before relocating to Colchester to become the director of The Minories Gallery until 1975 when he dedicated himself to painting full-time. He is characterised as an expressionist painter, with many high-profile artist connections and influences including John Piper, Michael Rothenstein, John Nash and Arthur Boyd. He was awarded the Barcham Green Award in 1986 for one of his paintings exhibited in the Bankside Gallery in London

Condition Report

The board is framed and kept under glazing. The paint condition is good and there is no obvious evidence of paint loss or deterioration. There is a very fine hairline crack in the centre of the sun.
