A Gillows late Victorian Gothic revival oak double bed, probably Bruce Talbert

A good late Victorian Gillows oak or ash double bed in the Gothic revival taste, almost certainly to a design by Bruce James Talbert (1838-1881), the headboard with moulded top rail above open panels with turned cruciform spindles flanking a centre panel divided into four with carved Gothic roundels, above three plain panels, all between half turned supports, the footboard of conforming design above a reeded base inset with three carved floret roundels, plain side rails with corner struts stamped 'Gillow & Co Lancaster' and the number L8767, each with a cast iron and turned wood castor wheel, with apparently original steel mesh wood-framed base, 152.5cm (5') wide, 207cm (6' 9.5") long, 163cm (5' 5") high.

Condition Report

Matress recess 142cm x 193cm (4' 8" x 6' 4"). Structurally very solid. Surface cosmetic wear consistent with age and use. Footboard slightly faded.
