Gary Anderson (Scottish Contemporary) Don't Go In James
oil on panel

Gary Anderson (Scottish Contemporary) Don't Go In James, oil on panel, signed and dated 2019 verso, measurements 60 x 60 cm, frame 63 x 63 cm

Gary Anderson (b. 1968) is based in the Scottish Borders, his on-going work focuses on boundaries, where countryside meets village and town; the liminal space between urban, suburban and the various intrusions that cut up the landscape. The work is a construction formed from either a visual trigger, emotion, or the process of automatism. Free flowing, initial mark making often defines the image and a more cohesive composition grows from this. Themes stemming from urban landscape continue to feed research, specifically Edinburgh’s shifting skyline, its people, and concerns over its architectural and social heritage. These concerns have featured heavily in his work over the years, hailing from Edinburgh and watching the town’s personality changing as he grew up.
