  Lot 6

A rare pearlware group, attributed to Tittensor though unmarked, circa 1810-25, modelled as a young baby asleep in a crib with a deer beside, the figures in limited colours, the branches in ochre, on a grassy base with scored front edge, 17cm high (slight damage and repair) *While Tittensor is not an uncommon name in North Staffordshire, the most likely producer of these figures is Charles Tittensor who was first mentioned in the Staffordshire Advertiser in 1802 as a potter in partnership with Robert Pope. He appears again in 1818 in Parson and Bradshaw's Directory as 'Tittensor Charles, potter, Queen Street Shelton'. Subsequent directories after 1823 make no further mention of him.
