Peninsular War. A Military General Service 1793-1814 Medal with eleven clasps awarded to Quartermaster Joshua Stubbs, 48th (Northamptonshire) Regiment of Foot. Talavera, Busaco, Albuhera, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Orthes and Toulouse clasps (impressed serif naming "J. STUBBS, Qr Mr 48th FOOT")

Notes: Joshua Stubbs was born May 1777 in Keele, Staffordshire. He enlisted as a private with the 48th (Northamptonshire) Regiment in September 1796 and worked his way up through the ranks to become a Quartermaster in 1800. Medal rolls confirm that he was the officer awarded the most clasps in this regiment.

His total service was 33 years and 3 months, with 23 years spent abroad and retirement in 1835. Stubbs is mentioned in The Peninsular War Journal of the soldier Charles Crowe (available to read in full as 'An Eloquent Soldier', edited by Gareth Glover and published by Pen & Sword 2011).

He married Ann Lynch on 20th September 1803 and had four children, including Lieutenant William Travers Stubbs who also served with the 48th Regiment in Madras. Joshua Stubbs died aged 82 at Sealands, Chester in November 1859.
