Great War M.M. group of four awarded to early POW Temp Coy. Quartermaster-Sergt William George Barrow, Cheshire Regiment:
George V Military Medal (8013 SJT;- T C.Q.M SJT:- W.G. BARROW 1/CHES R); 1914 Mons Star (8013 SJT W.G. BARROW CHES R); 1914–18 War Medal and Victory Medal (ditto), mounted as worn.
Barrow was wounded and captured early in the war; on Princess Mary’s POW 1914 Christmas Gift box list (captured before 25 Dec 1914; most 1st Battalion captured Oct–Nov). ICRC cards: captured at Dour, held at Soltau. Released to neutral Holland Feb 1918, repatriated later. M.M. peace gazetted 27 Jan 1920. With 1st Btn in Londonderry at outbreak; served 2nd Btn after war. Discharged 1922 after 18 years’ service as Colour Sergeant. Regimental Cross Country runner. Sold with photocopied research, including a group portrait of POWs at Soltau Lager z3036, incl. Sgt Barrow.
