Clementine Spencer Churchill, LS, to 'Mr Bullock'

Clementine Ogilvy Spencer Churchill, Baroness Spencer-Churchill GBE (1 April 1885 – 12 December 1977) Letter signed, one side, 4to, Flat 26, 7 Princes Gate, London, 1st April 1976, to Mr and Mrs Bullock.

'Dear Mr and Mrs Bullock, Thank you so much for your kind birthday card. I was touched that you should remember me. I do hope you are both well and that you enjoyed your visit to Australia. Yours sincerely (signed) Clementine Spencer Churchill'.

Sold together with three other related letters, including one from Winston Churchill's secretary Doreen Pugh giving Mr. Bullock his best wishes, and a magazine insert about Mr. Bullock. (4)

Notes: Mr. Joe Bullock was Winston Churchill's personal chauffeur from 1946. He served as a V.I.P driver during the Second World War with the R.A.S.C, primarily as the driver to General Ismay, who was then Sir Winston's chief of staff and secretary. After joining the Rootes group after the war, he worked as Churchill's full-time driver (except for three years when he was Prime Minister and used a government car).
