Leopold Reigner (1897-1981) was a French artist born in Niort, moving to Paris to study at the Academie Julian and Academy de la Grande Chaumiere. He spent some years travelling through Trinidad and Venezuela, settling for 20 years in Colombia, before returning to Franch in 1958. His artwork has been described as expressionist, characterised by bright coloured palettes often associated with fauvism. Reigner has recently been receiving renewed interest, with a retrospective of his work held in Nantes.

Condition Report

The painting is framed without glazing, the frame being in generally good condition with minor signs of wear and tear. There is some cracilature to the paint surface but no evidence of paint loss or deterioration.
