A group of English documentary mugs and tankards
19th century
including a twin-handled mug painted with fisherman seated with buildings and cathedral beyond, inscribed 'William Richard 1858' in gilt, 10.5cm high; a mug painted loosely with roses and buds, inscribed 'Matheus Noblett 1848', 9.2cm high; a very large tankard painted with a single tree within landscape below the inscription 'Stand Sure' within the gilt ribbon, named to 'Frances Maria Evans, Born 5th August 1844', 12.5cm high and 13.2cm diameter; a twin-handled mug inscribed 'Lydia Alogs, Presented by Her Cousin 1860', 11.1cm high; a mug inscribed 'W. Birch 1856', 10cm high; a further undecorated mug simply inscribed 'Presented to Samuel Stockton July 1880', 9cm high; further mug with lengthy inscription, 10cm high and a small earthenware child's mug transfer-printed with inscription 'A Present for John', 7cm high

Condition Report

Lydia Alofs twin-handled mug slightly stained yellow, with a few small hairlines and firing cracks to each handle.
W. Birch mug with rubbing to gilding.
Samuel Stockton mug with rubbing to gilding bands, but the inscription is generally good. Some spots of staining to the interior.
Lengthy inscription mug - badly cracked
Present for John mug is heavily crazed, stained.
