Notes: In 1931 Guiseppe Enrie was commissioned to take photographs of the Shroud by King Victor Emmanuel II, as it was displayed publicly on the occasion of Prince Humberto II and Marie Joseph of Belgium's wedding celebrations. They were to be the first photographs of the Shroud taken without its protective glazing. Enrie was accompanied by a French scientist and philosopher, Paul Vignon, a priest expert on the Turin cloth, Father Antonio Tonelli, and Secondo Pia, the first photographer of the Shroud (taken in 1898). Enrie described his work, including technical details, in his book La Santa Sindone revelata dalla fotografia, published in 1933.
