An early George III walnut and mahogany bureau, the figured fall with chequered stringing and a chain banding, above two short and three long graduated, cockbeaded drawers, above a shaped apron, on bracket feet, 102 x 49 x 106.5cm high

Condition Report

Top with 4cm triangular patch back left-hand corner, a 13cm patch on the right-hand side, 7cm old brass plate repair, middle front where lock forced in the past, scratches, dents and chips consistent with age and use.


Fall - slight vertical mark from contact with loper, vertical crack on top left-hand side and on right-hand side, particularly evident when open, later hinges, patches where old hinges placed.


Interior - lacking four original bone handles, base 38cm crack across left-hand side hinge and 23cm across right-hand side hinge.


Handles later, old handle positions evident from dowels, top left-hand drawer 4cm chip on cockbead on left-hand side, first long drawer lacking 8cm of vertical cockbead on right-hand side, bottom drawer lacking 5cm section of top right-hand side horizontal cockbead, cockbeads chipped, some rest' of rail and stile veneers, lacking 3 x 2cm, 2.5cm x 3.5cm sections of veneer, all bracket feet tipped (old), apron s/d, very chipped edges, fall and front faded
