A William IV needlework sampler, dated 1835
By Hannah Eastwood, aged 14 years, worked with a verse 'Friends are like leaves that on the Tress to grow . . . ', with further motto 'Happy is he, who hath a Friend indeed / Bet he more happy is, who none does need.', with flowering plants and birds, all within a border of meandering flowers and foliage, framed, 37cm x 32cm (frame 40cm x 34.5cm), together with a Victorian embroidered needlework bell pull, worked with stylised flowers and foliage and with a cast gilt metal handle, 128cm long x 8cm wide. A hand-written label verso reads 'Hannah Eastwood, eldest daughter of William Smith Eastwood, surgeon, Newbold. My great stepmother. M.M.F.'
