Ethelbert White (1891-1972) was a British artist who was influenced by the post-impressionists in France and had leanings towards the British avant-garde artists. He was a founding member of the English Wood Engraving Society, member of the Society of Wood Engravers, as well as being elected to the Royal Watercolour Society, London Group and New English Art Club. He came to wood engraving in 1920s but, despite his success, ceased working in this medium after a decade or so. He illustrated a number of books, the most successful being The Story of My Heart by Richard Jeeferies and Spenser's Wedding Songs, published by the Golden Cockerel Press. He spent much of the 1920s roaming Surrey and Sussex in a horse-drawn gypsy caravan with his wife, and following his retirement of wood engraving worked predominantly in oil and watercolour, regularly exhibiting at the Royal Academy.

The print is framed and glazed. It has full margins and the paper is in good condition with no visible creasing or tears.
