A 19th century parcel gilt, maple piano, by Erard, with barley twist legs terminating in brass castors, the action straight strung and with a wooden frame and iron plate, the inside of the keyboard lid 'Great Exhibition The only Council Medal for Pianofortes', number 3424, 144cm wide x approximately 255cm long x 97cm high; with a matching piano stool, seat in very poor condition (2)

Condition Report

  • Case: Fading/light-damage in places. Some varnish wear in places. Light scratches in places, especially to the cover. Some abrasions and small chips to the gilt in places. Small veneer losses on either side of case adjacent to keyboard.
  • Action: Not currently playable but appears intact. In need of re-commissioning, cleaning and tuning. Several hammers stuck. Both pedals function.
  • Stool: Leather cover worn and faded with a tare near the edge. Evidence of old worm to stem and supports.
