Of Shrewsbury interest: A pair of Ruabon terracotta roof gargoyles
From the former Ear Eye and Throat Hospital, now Kingsland Manions

A pair of Ruabon terracotta roof gargoyles, circa 1880
The mythical beasts with sinuous legs and wings, the elongated necks with rib barbs, each perched on an apex tile with scroll end, 80cm wide x 66cm deep x 83cm high (some repairs).

Footnote: This pair of gargoyles were part of the exterior decorations on the former Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital at the intersection of Murivance and Town Walls, Shrewsbury. Built in 1881, the hospital served patients continuously until 1998 when it was closed and later converted into apartments. The gargoyles in the present lot were removed following concerns about their safety, whereupon they were acquired by the vendor.
