A George IV rosewood revolving drum table by Gillows of Lancaster
The plain circular top over a recessed frieze having four flush drawers, raised on a hexagonal section baluster column on a trefoil base raised on bun feet, 128.5cm wide x 73.5cm high, one drawer stamped Gillows Lancaster.
From a significant mid-Wales country house.Footnote:
A similar Gillows drum table was sold at Christie's South Kensington rooms, 3 November 2011, lot 40, but with a leather inset top. The shape of pedestal and base is nearly identical and features several times in Gillows estimate sketch books of the 1820s on similar drum-top library as well as loo tables. Another example can be found in the collection of Dunham Massey, Cheshire, with an octagonal top.
Sold for £3,000
Generally good with some minor signs of age and use. A small veneer repair to the lower edge of the frieze adjacent to one of the drawers. A section of moulding to the pedestal adrift but present and intact (merely needs re-glueing). Minor cosmetic marks and scuffs to the base and feet. Drawer action is good. Revolving action is good and smooth.
