Condition Report

The earlier example with purple base is badly cracked to both the base and also the rear of the main body, near the handle. The paint is generally pretty tired in areas - e.g. there is rubbing to the handle, coat, feet and the base - but the decoration to the face appears generally good. The pipe to one side of his feet is also restored, this has been done quite well but there is a noticeable colour difference.

Jug with marbled base - Glaze flake to the rear, just to the lower left side of the handle. Lots of wear to the black enamel around the brim of his hat and further losses to paint around the jug and his feet. Crazing evident all over. No obvious signs of any repairs. There is a glaze fault visible to the section of the base just below his foot. There is also a crack visible to the interior, but this appears to be a firing fault.

Bidding indicates acceptance of the condition of the lot.  All lots are sold subject to general wear and tear commensurate with age and handling over time and only obvious faults will be mentioned after a visual inspection. If you have particular specialist questions on any lot, please state these before bidding since we cannot and will not provide a forensic examination of any lot but only a general condition report as a guide only. All condition reports given by Halls Holdings Ltd's representatives or agents are statements of opinion and not fact. If you require any further information about any lots in this auction or about bidding please do not hesitate to contact us again.
