Deirdre Henty-Creer (1928-2012) was an Australian artist born in Sydney, but spent much of her working life in the UK. Her earliest years were spent living on a destroyer ship commanded by her father before relocating to the UK with her mother, using England as a base whilst travelling Europe and Asia as a family. She had a very cultural upbringing, with family friends including Alexander Korda, Peter Ustinov and Nadia Benois. She and her family maintained a life-long connection to the military, through the career of her father and loss of her brother during World War Two, which greatly influenced the subjects of her artwork.
