The Autumn Auction

  Lot 28

An early-mid 18th century oak dresser, North Wales, the rack with a cavetto cornice above an undulating frieze over two shelves with open fretwork sides, the base with a triple board top and moulded edge above an unusual arrangement of a central arched fielded panelled cupboard door, above two short drawers and flanked by a rectangular 'secret' panel drawer on each side, flanked in turn by a further frieze drawer over a double fielded panel door, with unusual 'S' scroll-form arches terminating in carved scrolls, on extended stiles, 170cm wide x 58cm x 196cm high

Footnote:

Note the unusual tightly carved scroll terminals on the panels of the cupboard doors. Equally, the small central cupboard flanked by a 'secret' panel slide on each side is a rare configuration on a dresser, but conversely something that is commonly found on the interiors of 18th century bureaux.

Sold for £1,300
