Provenance: private local collection who purchased from the Goldmark Gallery

In 1969 Hockney created a series of etchings to illustrate six of his favourite stories from the Brothers Grimms Fairy Tales. He chose to use the clear lines of etching to reflect the simple, direct style of language used in these childhood stories and explore the supernatural and psychological aspects of the tales.

Condition Report

Lot 26: The etching is a work on paper framed under glazing, not examined external to the frame. It has full margins and visible platemark. There are no visible rips, creases or folds to the paper and no obvious signs of deterioration. The frame is in good condition, minor general wear and tear. There is one dark spot to the upper-centre-left which could be part of the paper.
