John Anthony Park (British 1880-1962) St. Ives Harbour

John Anthony Park (British 1880-1962) St. Ives Harbour, signed lower centre-right, oil on board, measurements 35 x 46 cm, frame 46 x 56 cm

Provenance: private local collection, by repute purchased by a relative on honeymoon to St Ives in 1939

John Anthony Park was heavily influenced by the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements, his style characterised by short brush strokes and a rich, colourful palette. Colour was a central driving factor in Park's artwork, being widely quoted that "colour is everything. Anyone can be taught line, but you cannot teach a feeling for colour". He is heavily associated with the area of St Ives where he settled for much of his career, and St Ives Harbour was his favoured location to paint en plein air.

Sold for £2,350
