Provenance: private collection by descent, sitter is believed to Patrick Griffith (1865-1952) born in Ballindine, County Mayo. Griffith founded the British Technical Cork Company in 1925 and later the Engineering Components Ltd (later known as Payens Ltd). He invented a light density aeroplane fuel and copper coated gaskets for aircraft and car engines- with factories in South Africa and Australia.
