A rare Caughley black basalt cream jug
circa 1780-90
of helmet form with pleated detail to body and acanthus-moulding to the handle, impressed 'SALOPIAN',
10.5cm high (handle repaired)

Literature: See Caughley Newsletter January 2015 No.61 p.19f. There are probably no more than five or six pieces of Salopian black basalt known, making this an incredibly interesting and comparatively rare survivor.

The handle has been cleanly and neatly re-attached, please see additional images. There are no further damages or repairs.
