Provenance:

Purchased from the McKewan Gallery (Ballater, Aberdeenshire) in the late 1990s.

Footnote:

Alfred de Breanski was a landscape artist who exhibited at the RA from 1872-1890. He specialised in highland scenes, particularly lochs at sunset. This lot is a typical example, both in terms of subject matter, but also that it is titled and signed on the reverse. His son (Alfred Fontville de Breanski) followed his father's oevre.

Original frame chipped and gilt rubbed, especially top edge and some losses, including lower corners. Frame with small chips on the gilding and gesso, including bottom edge and corners and the left side’s edge.
