Joseph Josiah Dodd (British 1809 - 1880) 'The Doges Palace and the Bacino, Venice', signed, inscribed and dated 'J.J. Dodd, Bangor, North Wales', 1873', and further inscribed as title, watercolour, unframed, unglazed, 66.1cm x 100.4cm,

The artist travelled as a young man to Paris in 1835. Thereafter he worked in the Midlands, predominately in Cheshire, also in North Wales. A skilled print maker as well as watercolourist. Dodd held the position of 'Painter in watercolour to the Duchess of Kent and the Princess Victoria.

Condition Report

Some surface yellowing but still in generally good condition.The watercolour is on paper laid down on backing card.There is surface browning near the watercolour edges (where it would have originally bordered an inset gilt mount). Please note this watercolour is offered for sale unframed and unglazed (with no mount)
