19th Century half length portrait of Hugh Robert Hughes (b.1774) of Kinmel, Abergele, oil on canvas, inscribed Hugh Robert Hughes of Kinmell, born 27th April 1774. Measurements 79 x 66 cm

Provenance: Purchased from the dispersal sale of Kinmel Hall in 1970

Hugh Robert Hughes was the son of Edward Hughes and Mary Lewis, his son Hugh Robert Hughes the younger by his second wife Anne Lance inherited the property.

Condition Report

The painting has been relined and heavily retouched and overpainted, the inscription appears to have been cut and pasted on to the canvas, there are surface level accretions, dirt and some chips. There is surface level craquelure thoroughout with some surface losses.
