WW1 uniform as worn by 2nd Lt. A Simon, 1st/5th North Staffordshire Regiment

A scarce Great War officer’s uniform grouping for Second Lieutenant A.C.S. Simon of the 1/5th North Staffordshire Regiment.
The lot comprises his tailored service dress tunic by Pickford & Newton of 11A George Street, labelled to Simon and fitted with North Staffordshire and Territorial lapel badges, three cloth overseas chevrons on the right sleeve, embroidered rank stars, and gold horseshoe formation signs on both shoulders. Accompanying the tunic are the matching trousers, also labelled to Simon by Pickford & Newton (Croydon), a North Staffs service dress cap, a Sam Browne leather belt with shoulder strap, a haversack or side bag, and Aertex underpants named to A. Simon, a bag strap, a group photograph of the officer in uniform on his wedding day, and a later anti‑flash mask.

Arthur Charles Sewell Simon (1890-1968) was commissioned in the North Staffs Regiment on 1st August 1917. He previously served with the 28th London (Artists') Rifles, no. 7082 and 761629, including in France and Belgium from 3rd March 1916. He married Dora Emily Bird on 16th August, 1917. Simon worked as a bank clerk in Surrey after the war.
