Two Japanese lacquer inro

Unsigned, Meji period

The first two-case, dark brown and lacquered in shades of gold, silver and red with a dragon in clouds above waves, 5.5cm, the second five-case, dark brown and carved to one side with a fierce lion dog and to the other with a flower vase picked out in gilt, with goldstone ojime and rosewood manju netsuke, 11.5cm. (2)

Condition Report

The first: Lacking chord. Chipping/nibbling to case edges. Surface wear and signs of age.


The second: Gilt almost entirely rubbed. Slight nibbling to case edges. Lacquer losses to base of chiita. General surface wear throughout.
