Yuan Dynasty

The shallow bowl with flat rim, decorated to the well with two opposing goldfish in relief, the outside with lotus petal decoration.

Bowls of this type were produced in large numbers during the Southern Song to Yuan Dynasty, the decoration of fish enhanced by the use of a thinner layer of glaze. A similar example is illustrated in Chinese Ceramics, He Li, 2006, p.174 fig.355.

Three significant hairlines to the rim. Some surface abrasions inside. Minor fritting to the rim edge. Please refer to images.
