George Holt was a West Midlands artist who is best known for his abstract works. Holt found inspiration in the works of the St Ives School artists and preferred to compose directly onto the canvas and react to and be stimulated by the experience and process of creating the work. He began his career in design having been apprenticed as a draftsman and became a Senior Lecturer at the Wolverhampton Technical College. He was a member of the Eagle Works Artist's Group in Wolverhampton and exhibited widely throughout the West Midlands throughout his career.
