A Chinese hongmu pedestal desk, late Qing Dynasty, mid 19th century
The plain top raised on twin pedestals, each having two drawers with brass bracket handles, raised on square section supports united by an openwork fret under-tier, 120cm wide x 67cm deep x 77cm high.

Provenance: Purchased in 1972 from Ng Ting Kau emporium, Kuala Lumpur, by the vendor's late husband while working in South East Asia as a representative of Jebsen & Jessen.

Condition Report
Shrinkage to some of the joints, especially apparent in the top.  Minor cosmetic marks consistent with age and use.  Fine board splits to inside panels of the pedestals with evidence of restoration.  All handles and locks are later replacements.  No evidence of worm.
