A Chinese blue and white plaque in a carved hardwood screen

Qing Dynasty

The plaque of fan shape and decorated with a river landscape with palace and associated buildings arranged on a river bank with small bridge, rockwork and trees, set into an openwork hardwood screen carved with bats, peaches, finger citron and foliage in a fretwork trellis.

Plaque 55cm x 26cm, screen 75cm wide x 49cm high

It is likely that this plaque and its screen is a surviving element from a larger fire screen or panelled room screen. For comparison, see Bonhams San Francisco, Fine Asian Works of Art, 24 June 2013, lot 1159; an eight-panel screen with openwork sections inset with variously shaped blue and white panels including of fan form as in the present lot.

Plaque appears good. Screen has some splits to the lower middle section.
