An Egyptian terracotta head of a child, Alexandria region, circa 1st-2nd Century AD, depicting Harpocrates, 4cm. Footnote: Harpocrates was the son of the goddess Isis and whose name translates as 'Horus the Child'. He was an important figure to the Mystery religion of Isis that spread through the Roman Empire. The full figure of the present lot would have stood in a household shrine.
