A.J. Nowell (1862-1940) Portrait of Edwin Richard Balding Esq, oil on canvas, signed bottom right and dated 1929, measurements 111 x 87 cm, frame 112 x 138 cm.

Plaque bottom reads 'Presented to Edwin Richard Balding Esq. Founder and First Chairman and Managing Director, by staff of the United Friendly Insurance Co. Ltd. in the 21st Year of his office as a token of respect and esteem, February 18th 1930'.

Notes: There is a tear to the upper right and a hole to the top centre.

Condition Report
The painting is and oil on canvas, framed without glazing. There is a hole above-left of the head of the sitter, a long tear through the canvas upper right with paint loss. There is a scratch through the newspaper and desk as well as a dent with paint loss centre-left. Please refer to additional images. General wear and tear to the frame including some chips.
