A replica locomotive nameplate for Nunney Castle, by Lamb, with cab and smokebox plates '5029' (4)

A good replica metal locomotive nameplate for Nunney Castle, of double arched form, with brass lettering on a black ground, above a vacant green field with a red line border, mounted on a painted mdf plaque, stamped on the back 'Severn Lamb' and '10G(?) 1974', rim at the top broken in three places, paint chips,174cm wide; with a replica cast brass cab-side number plate '5029', the brass numbers on a black ground with a red border and green rim, 63cm x 30cm, and a good replica cast metal smokebox plate, '5029', with painted white numbers on a black ground, 50cm wide x 15.5cm, both of the latter on painted mdf plaques; with a painting by Bernard Jones (active circa 1996), depicting the Castle Nunney locomotive in a station, signed and dated '95' lower left, oil on canvas, 51cm x 61cm (4)

Footnote:

It is thought that this lot was bought direct from Oswestry by the deceased, but it is not known when as the deceased was not allowed to display it in his mother's lifetime, but it eventually hung in pride of place in his sitting room, when he lived on his own, along with all his other railway memorabilia.

Bonhams sold a nameplate for Nunney Castle, Castle Class locomotive, number 5029, for £17,860 (including premium) on the 21st of November 2003. Nunney Castle was built in May 1934 and withdrawn from service in December 1963. The locomotive was sold to the Great Western Society.

Condition Report

Nameplate - broken rim at the top in 4 places. Restoration including paintwork - poor touching-up around all rivets and red lines on bottom section. Many small paint chips, especially far left and right. Needs cleaning.

5029 plates - both restored including paintwork. Paint chips around bolts, where removed for inspection.

Painting - ok, but frame with a chip on the right side.
