Major General Barlow - six autograph letters signed, 1811-1814

MAJOR GENERAL BARLOW, J.I, six autograph letters signed to various commanders. 13½ pages 4to, Dover, 17 December 1811 to 14 September 1814, written during Barlow’s tenure as commander of troops while stationed in Dover during the War of 1812, describing troop movements and military strategies.

The letters are addressed to General Nicholls; General Canterbury; Major French; Major General Haddon and two to the Earl of Roslyn, one of which includes a letter from Colonel Tobriny relating to directions written on verso. The content covers such matters as transport of heavy baggage of the 4th Dragoon Guards; discussion about a route march for the third King’s Regiment German Hussars; additional personnel for the 33rd Regiment; matters relating to a detachment of the 1st West York; order for a detachment from the Derbyshire militia and relief of the 1st West York at Deal, and reporting on the sailing of the Galway Militia without their full complement of men.
