A good Chinese famille rose plaque, Republic period
Of rectangular outline, finely painted in the manner of Cheng Yiting with two crane birds beneath a pine tree in which perches a pheasant, the lower trunk issuing lingzhi mushrooms, within an iron red and gilt complex border, 38.5cm x 26cm.

Footnote: Cheng Yiting (1895-1948) was one of the celebrated group of artists known as the Friends of Zhushan, specialising in painting birds and flowers. This example is unsigned and in the manner of Yiting, likely by another hand of the same period. For comparison, see a vase painted with a crane bird beside a pine tree sold at Christie's London rooms, 11 July 2006, lot 194.
